Important Considerations for Gemstone Transactions
While we welcome all enquiries, dealing in gemstones and precious metals requires careful attention to detail. Here are key factors to keep in mind:
1. Certification Requirements
To ensure legitimacy and value, any gemstone presented must include certification from one of the following recognised institutions:
- GIA – Gemological Institute of America
- AGS – American Gem Society
- GCAL – Gem Certification and Assurance Lab
- Gubelin
- SSEF – Swiss Gemological Institute
Other reputable labs may also be accepted.
2. Quality Standards
- Accepted Gemstones – Must be cut, faceted, polished, and classified as “gem quality” (high clarity).
- Uncut Stones – We can facilitate cutting and certification for uncut stones at an additional cost.
Note: Cabochon stones, opaque gems, and those with poor clarity generally lack significant resale or investment value, even if certified.
Exceptions: Pearls, opals, jade, and certain semi-transparent gemstones may still hold investment potential. Contact us for further details.
3. Valuation Clarity
- Avoid Overinflated Valuations – Insurance valuations often do not reflect true market value. Before any terms are issued, all gemstones undergo an independent re-evaluation to establish fair and accurate worth.
- Investment Focused – We prioritise gemstones with strong resale or investment potential to ensure profitable and efficient transactions.
